Michael grew up in between cultures and the youngest of 4 boys.

His parents came to the US as refugees from the former Soviet Union, and shortly after, he was born. They belonged to the local Russian-Speaking Baptist community until his parents separated.

At the age of 8, his dad took him to and kept him in Kiev, Ukraine away from his mom, brothers, and country for 15 months. These early experiences developed into an interest to study communication, psychology, and hypnosis as vehicles to understand himself and the world around him.

He got into martial arts and sports recreationally. Even though he made mistakes, he wasn’t discouraged from playing sports he enjoyed. One day in middle school, Michael readied himself to catch a football from a long throw, and as he looked on, the ball disappeared from his field of vision and hit him in the face.

It was embarrassing, but he got over it. Michael grew up chubby, but active. He enjoyed skateboarding, martial arts, yoga, running, and more. As an adult, he taught ballroom dancing, was a wildland firefighter, and much more.

He holds an MA in Sport and Performance Psychology and a BA in Integrative Psychology from National University and certificates in hypnosis from the International Association of Professional Conversational Hypnotists.
