What Is The ‘Return Process’?

The Return Process

What we call the Return Process is a 5 step protocol for managing your attention at different stages of your performance. The 5 steps are:

  1. Read – Read yourself, your surrounding environment, and the people around you.

  2. Name – Use a label to give your experience a handle.

  3. Choose – Reconnect to your direction by aligning with your goals, role, or values.

  4. Act – Take one small, aligned action in that direction.

  5. Reflect – Notice what changed, reinforce what worked, learn, and repeat.

Learning to manage your attention is the key to self-regulating through the ups and downs of pursuing your goals.
