What Is The Return Process?

Return Process

What we call the Return Process is a 5-step protocol for managing your attention at different stages of your performance. The five steps are:

  1. Read – Read yourself, the environment, and the people around you.

  2. Name – Use a name to give your experience a handle.

  3. Aim – Aim at your goal, role, task, or values.

  4. Act – Take one small step in your chosen direction.

  5. Reflect – Notice what went well, what you’d like to improve, and how did it happen that what went well went well.

Learning to manage your attention is the key to self-regulating through the ups and downs of pursuing your goals. For more about the Return Process, get your copy of the Mental Skills Training Manual on Amazon.
